I thought i would add another game into the pool of suggestions. A few of you probably already heard of it but i thought i would go more in depth for those who might want to try it out, but dosnt know if its worth their time. I have 20 hours in the game so far and i have experienced pretty much everything the game has to offer, except for ranked since the servers used for it are unstable, so i decided to avoid it until it gets fixed.
Dirty bomb is a free to play FPS thats currently in beta. Its of course available on steam.
Free to play model: As the game is free to play it obviously needs to compensate. The free to play model in this game is debatable. In my opinion its a little to hard earning in game cash. There are missions you can complete thats going to earn you a decent amount and they refresh every now and again. If you play the game a lot you will earn a fair bit, but if you aint playing that much it will feel like it takes forever.
Currency: So the currency is used for 3 differen things. To buy mercs, buy cases that contains loadout cards and to upgrade current loadout cards to a higher tier. My suggestion would be to find a combination of mercs that suit your playstyle and focus on upgrading those to get most out of your currency. You can of course also buy the starter pack on steam for 28 euro that gives you some mercs and a lot of in game cash to save yourself some time.
Mercs: The mercs are the classes you can play. Classes matter a lot in this game since its very objective based. The classes are a regular assault rifle or machine gun based merc a healer and a shotgunner who specialize in repairing the different objectives. Those are the 3 main type of mercs in the game. There are free rotations of mercs every now and again which means you can play mercs that you havnt unlocked for a period of time until the rotation shifts again.
Loadout cards: This is where the game gets fun at least for me. Your mercs are basically cards. You unlock these cards from cases and they range from lead to cobolt which is the highest you can get. Obsidian cards are from promotions outside of the game that you then unlock using a code you get for steam. So as you can see on the picture below the left side is the augments and the buttom displays the guns you get. Primary. Secondary and the melee weapon. Before a match begins you choose 3 cards of different mercs and those will be the ones you have available in that match. You cant change the augments or the weapons in the cards you are stuck with what you have. You can however upgrade lower tier cards into higher tier cards. The augments you get are random but you keep the weapons.
Gameplay: The game currently got 2 modes and you play either 6v6 7v7 or 8v8. Objective mode and Stopwatch mode. In objective mode you are either playing on attack or defense. On attack you need to either repair an objective and escort it to where it needs to go or blow something up.
There are either 2 or 3 sets of objectives in the map that you do in order. To take an example. You first need to repair a vehicle. Then you need to escort it to a location. After that you need to take the things the vehicle was carrying and get those to a certain place. On defense your job is to make sure that attack dosn't complete those objectives. You only play 1 round so you dont get to play the opposite side in the same match. Stopwatch mode is a lot more fun and its also the mode used for ranked. You start on either attack or defense. You do the same thing as in Objective mode, however you need to do it faster than the other team. You start on attack and the faster you complete the objectives the better. Since after the round is over you switch to defense and in order to win you need to make sure they dont do the objectives faster than your team did.
The gunplay is also something i want to add a few words about. You can of course aim down the sights but its recommended that you dont. Even the tutorial states that its better for you to hipfire which is true. I rarely ever aim down the sights unless the target is far away, or i play as a sniper. Also for those who play CS:GO you do run faster with the knife in this game, so always equip it at the beginning of a round, or when you just need to get to a position faster.
The beauty of this game is that it got some CS:GO elements to it but comparing the two, this game is smoother and the hipfire actually works since the recoil and bullet spray aint full on retarded like CS:GO.
The ranked scene in this game at the moment is pretty much irrelevant. There are no rewards for playing it other than a leaderboard. The only reason you would play ranked as of right now, would be if you want to play with 6-8 friends and have fun. So again if i have to compare it to CS:GO the ranked system in Dirty Bomb is much more WM friendly.
I think i covered the basics fairly well. The only thing left to do if you are interested is to try it out. Ill be happy to play the game with anyone who wants to give it a go and help them out getting the hang of it.
